FY-2E Outgoing Longwave Radiation Product.

Abstract:
FY2E Outgoing Longwave Radiation Product is estimated from the radiances of two window channels and one water vapour channel of FY2E. A series of regression equations developed by radiative simulation and regression analysis are used to calculate OLR. The product is projected onto longitude/latitude grid covering the area 50°N-50°S?55°E-155°E with a resolution of 0.1 Degree. OLR(outgoing longwave radiation) is the thermal radiative energy emitted into the outspace by the earth-atmospheric system at the top of atmosphere.It's magnitude is highly related to the temperature of the emitting surface. It is one of the three components that determine the earth radiation budget at the TOA. OLR is widely used in climate model and climate diagnoses.

    • FY2E Outgoing Longwave Radiation Product is derived from FY2E L1 data. In processing software a highest and lowest OLR thresholds as well as channel temperature thresholds are set. The quality of the OLR product was validated by comparing with that of NOAA-18 AVHRR. The root-mean-sqrare errors of monthly average OLR of FY-2E were 6-10W/M2 in 2011 when compared with that of NOAA-18.
