Volcanic ash occurrence within a radius of 150km around a volcano and computed with ARPEGE wind fields.

Abstract:
Volcanic ash occurrence within a radius of 150km around a volcano. Occurrences are computed by using a large number of particles distributed on the contaminated vertical column and subjected to wind advection and deposition process on the ground (sedimentation). Horizontal dispersion is estimated using vertical wind distribution. The wind field is provided by the ARPEGE meteorological model. Occurrences are computed by Météo-France for aeronautical support, available for 18 pressure levels in hPa (1000, 950, 900, 850, 800, 700, 600, 500, 400, 300, 250, 200, 100, 70, 50, 30, 20) and for aeronautic flight levels FL0-FL200, FL200-FL350 and FL350-FL550. Occurences are computed on a regular horizontal grid 0.1deg x 0.1deg around the source by cutting out according to the quantiles or by using a linear manner. As a result, a visualization of the total ash cloud cover, and an estimation of areas of greater density, are provided. Outputs are in GRIB format. Data access is restricted to institutional authorities. Champs d'occurrence de cendres volcaniques dans un rayon de 150km  autour d'un volcan, obtenus  par l'advection et la sédimentation d'un grand nombre de particules lâchées sur la colonne contaminée, la dispersion horizontale des particules étant approchée par les écarts de vent suivant la verticale. Les champs de vent sont fournis par les modèles météorologiques ARPEGE. Le produit est calculé, pour les besoins des services aéronautiques de Météo-France, sur les couches FL0-FL200, FL200-FL350 et FL350-FL550 et sur une grille régulière de 0.1deg x 0.1deg autour du volcan-source.  Les sorties, fournies au format GRIB, permettent la visualisation de l'emprise globale du nuage de cendre mais également, par l'application au nombre de particules de découpages en quantile ou linéaire, l'estimation des zones de plus grande densité.
