Cloud Optical Thickness - Multimission

Abstract:
This product provides information on the Cloud Optical Thickness (COT) for pixels that are flagged cloudy by the cloud detection test. The retrieval algorithm is based on 0.6 and 1.6 micron channel radiances of Meteosat SEVIRI. As an intermediate product the algorithm retrieves cloud droplet effective radius as well. However, since the droplet effective radius is not validated it will not be provided as an output product in the CMSAF. The final daily, monthly mean and monthly mean diurnal cycle average product is calculated by logarithmic averaging of the original algorithm output in one kilometre resolution over 15 by 15 sq km sub-areas. Such pixels where the retrieval failed for any reason are excluded from averaging.
