UV Data Record Release 1, daily maximum dose rate, erythemal (CIE) weighting - Multimission

Abstract:
This product gives the daily maximum dose rate of solar ultraviolet radiation for a given day. The solar spectral irradiance arriving on a horizontal Earth's surface at a given location and time of day is weighted by an action spectrum and integrated over wavelength to yield the dose rate. The erythemal action spectrum is applied for this product, describing the reddening of human skin after exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The dose rates are calculated with half-hourly intervals during the sunlit part of the day and the maximum value is reported. Input total column ozone data are obtained from GOME-2/Metop measurements while daily cloud data are collected from multiple overpasses of AVHRR/3 instrument onboard both Metop and NOAA satellites.
