IASI Principal Components Scores Fundamental Data Record Release 1 - Metop-A and -B

Abstract:
This is release 1 of the IASI Principal Component Scores (PCS) Fundamental Data Record (FDR) from Metop-A and –B. Principal component compression (PCC) is applied to the IASI Level 1c radiance spectra. PCC works by representing multidimensional data, like IASI spectra, in a lower dimensional space, which accounts for most of the variance seen in the data. The PCC is applied individually to each of the three IASI spectral bands and reduces the size of the measurement files of up to a factor of 50. With the use of Eigenvector files the spectra can be reconstructed from the PCS files for downstream applications.
